ADA Kitchen Faucets for Accessible Multi-Unit Kitchens

Accessible kitchens place different demands on a faucet than standard units. Shallower basins, pull-down or pull-out spray heads, disposal placement, and tight cabinet interiors all interact with operability requirements, so the faucet belongs on the same schedule line as the sink bowl, counter section, and knee-space plan for each accessible kitchen type.

Give first priority to how the faucet works in place: a lever that operates in one motion without tight grasping or twisting, a spray head that releases and docks without a difficult grip, and controls positioned where the planned approach actually permits use. Spray style, spout height, and mounting method can then follow the basin dimensions and cabinet conditions.

Allora USA reviews accessible kitchen faucet selections against the paired sink model, bowl depth, deck or counter mounting condition, hose travel, and under-cabinet clearances. When a substitution is proposed, we evaluate it within that specific sink-and-counter package and flag operational or dimensional changes before the project team signs off.

Request Project Pricing Send the accessible kitchen fixture schedule — faucet and paired sink — to Allora for operability review, alternate comparison, technical documents, availability, and project pricing.

Pair the Faucet with the Accessible Bowl

Accessible kitchen sinks often use shallower basins, which changes splash behavior and spout geometry. Select spout height and reach for the actual bowl on the schedule, not a standard-depth assumption.

Verify Lever and Spray-Head Operation

Confirm the lever moves through its full range with limited force and that the pull-down or pull-out head can be lifted, used, and returned one-handed. Assess operation at the installed mounting height.

Plan Hose Travel and Cabinet Interior

Pull-down hoses need free travel below the deck. Coordinate hose weight, supply lines, protected piping, and disposal placement inside the accessible sink cabinet before the millwork order is released.

Position Controls for the Planned Approach

Counter depth, sink setback, and adjacent cabinetry determine whether controls remain reachable from a forward or parallel approach. Verify the faucet location against the kitchen plan, not the product sheet alone.

Substitute at the Package Level

An alternate faucet should hold the approved spout height and reach, handle operation, mounting format, and hose function. A model swap that changes any of these alters the usability of the whole station.

Schedule Accessible Kitchens Separately

List accessible kitchen quantities by unit type and phase. Allora quotes the faucet together with its paired sink so pricing, availability, and documents cover the complete station.

Frequently Asked Questions

Compliance comes from the installed faucet meeting the operable parts rules. Section 804.4 of the 2010 ADA Standards sends kitchen sinks to section 606, and section 606.4 sends the faucet controls to section 309. Section 309.4 asks for one-hand operation with no tight grasping, pinching, or twisting of the wrist, at 5 pounds of force maximum. Section 309.3 places the controls inside the reach ranges of section 308.

The 2010 ADA Standards do not name a handle type. Section 606.4 sends faucet controls to section 309, and section 309.4 asks that one hand can work the control without tight grasping, pinching, or twisting of the wrist, at 5 pounds of force or less. Single lever, push, and touchless controls are the usual ways to pass that test. A knob that must be gripped and twisted normally does not. Reach is checked separately under section 308.

Section 309.3 of the 2010 ADA Standards puts faucet controls inside the section 308 reach ranges. Reaching over a sink and counter is an obstructed forward reach under section 308.2.2, so the clear floor space must extend beneath the counter at least as far as the reach depth. The control may sit 48 inches at most where the reach depth is 20 inches or less, and 44 inches at most for depths over 20 inches, up to 25 inches.
